Carmen Miranda our border collie / lab mix
Adam is in public relations and Curtis is in community engagement and arts education
We talked about having a child on our very first date six years ago and have been dreaming of building a family ever since.
One of the foundations of our relationship is knowing we both want to be parents and that we have all the love in the world to give to a child. We’re choosing an open adoption because we believe ‘it takes a village’ and everyone is welcome in ours.
Thank you for taking the time to hear our story and learn a little bit about us.
We met in New York City in Bryant Park next to the New York Public Library and quickly discovered we loved many of the same tv shows and movies. That night, Adam called his best friend and said he met the man he would marry. Several weeks later we became a couple by a lake in New York’s Central Park, where a year later we got engaged. We built a life, home and community together in New York before opportunity took us to San Francisco, where we’re planning on staying and building a family.
Kindness and community are very important to us. Our home is always open to friends and family. Some of our happiest times have been gathered around our table, where there’s always an extra seat.
We live in Northern California near Oakland and the beach, the forests and the mountains. We love to fill our lives with adventure and we’re ready for the next one.
I was born and raised in the Midwest, calling Kansas home for the first 22 years of my life before packing up after college and starting a career as a TV news producer in New York. After 15 years of living in and out of NYC and working as a producer at many news networks, I made the transition to public relations in the Bay Area to allow for a much-improved work / life balance. As a kid, I always loved the idea of getting out in the world and exploring but didn’t have many opportunities to do so until I grew up. It’s important for me to share my love of travel with the child we will raise, showing them everything this world has to offer. When I’m not working, I’m usually hitting the streets running miles and miles for charity. I’ve spent the past 10 years coaching and running marathons for a cancer charity. There will be a jogging stroller in our future!
Adam has the most caring heart of any man I’ve met. From the first moment, I knew he was sincere and kind and throughout our life together, he always puts me first. I feel so incredibly lucky to have found a best friend and husband who likes what I like and wants what I want from life. We are silly together and love making each other smile. He’s also incredibly smart and confident. He knows more about politics than I ever will but he always makes space for other people and has so much love to give.
I was born in Des Moines, Iowa but you wouldn’t know it to hear my accent. I was raised in England near a city called Manchester. I then moved to London when I was 18 and life has been an adventure ever since. I’m a trained actor and have been on tv in shows like The Blacklist and Orange is the New Black, as well as lots of theater including the London’s West End and Broadway in NYC. I have also been an Arts Educator for 20 years and love teaching kids how to sing, act and dance as well as new skills like circus and puppetry. I’ve had fun teaching kids from pre K all the way through 12th grade and even beyond, working with adults with special needs. I love watching movies, reading geeky science fiction and spending lots of time outdoors running and walking our dog. One of my lifelong passions is Disney and I am a teaching artist for Disney on Broadway, so I know all the lyrics and dance moves to songs in Aladdin, Lion King and Frozen.
I fell in love with Curtis the minute I walked around the corner and saw him standing in Bryant Park. Curtis is selfless, always making sure his family and friends are well taken care of even if that means their needs are met before his. His love for me, our family and our friends knows no boundaries. I love how dedicated he is to ensuring every child he teaches through theatre and the arts is cared for individually. I love what a nerd he is, how much he loves Star Wars, how much we love Star Trek together and how he can re-watch Mad Men over and over again. I can’t wait to be a father with him.
I’m Carmen Miranda but everyone calls me Carmen. My dads adopted me from a shelter three years ago. They thought they would make me sleep in my own bed but I decided that their bed is much more comfy. I love sniffing out critters on my walks and having a treat when I come home. Everyone says I’m the sweetest, calmest pup they ever met and I love a good belly rub. I can’t wait to have another (human) puppy around the house!
The Jewish Holidays are a time for family, friends, tradition and food for us. We love to mark the year in meaningful ways and our home is always open to folks who love a good meal and a chance to be part of our community. Passover is our favorite time. We make the longest table we can, invite everyone we know and love singing and celebration. Adam was born Jewish and Curt adopted Judaism a few years ago. We even went on a trip to Israel together and swam in the Dead Sea.
Come fall and winter, you’ll hear sports on TV in our house, Adam’s family are born and bred Kansas Jayhawk basketball and Kansas City Chiefs football fans. But, it is not all about sports, we love seeing live theatre and experiencing all the different cultural events just outside our door.
We promise to love your little one with all our heart and to provide them with the security, hope and courage to face whatever may come in their life.
We promise to raise your little one into a kind, curious, brave and loving human being.
We promise to honor our future relationship with you and to always share the story of your immense love and care that went into your decision of adoption.
