Hi, we are John and Alex! Originally from Canada, we came to San Francisco to follow our engineering careers. We have since made the Bay Area our home and feel so fortunate live in such a diverse and exciting city. We have been passionate about adoption for many years and look forward to starting our family!
We met in 2011 through mutual friends, during our final year of college. Despite our careers in different cities in Canada and the U.S., we managed to maintain a long distance relationship for 2 years. Eventually we settled together in Canada, where we were fortunate to be able to spend a lot of time with our large extended families. Since moving to California, we’ve grown our love for travel, experiencing different cultures and foods from around the world.
Born and raised in Alberta as a first generation Canadian, John pursued his dreams of becoming a software engineer. He has proven devotion to achieving what he sets out to accomplish.
My first memory of John is seeing him in a college statistics class, but it wasn’t until our last semester that we started hanging out. Before we started dating, I would spend time at his parent’s home with his family and especially with his younger sister. It was then that I saw how important family is to John. In our 8 years together, every Monday evening has always been family time with his family, whether in-person or over facetime.
John is great with children, kids are always drawn to him. He has a fun-loving personality and is always willing to play a game. He has a great way of making the mundane, everyday tasks seemingly more fun. His optimism and positive outlook on life make him so easy to be around.
Alex grew up in the Canadian Prairies and moved around small towns a lot. This was way different than my own childhood, growing up in a big city. The first time we went on a road trip to visit her family, I even got to meet a day-old baby cow! I think this upbringing is what has contribute to her strong sense of family, as well as her grounded personality.
What I love most about Alex is the warmth and kindness she carries with her. Even as we moved from Canada, she’s been able to maintain close contact with friends and family. When I first attended her family reunion, it was something else. The size of her extended family was overwhelming, with many names and friendly faces to remember all at once! Over time, they’ve become my extended family as well and I’m always looking forward to our next get-together. Alex is especially close with her sister and nieces. We visit them several times a week (virtually) and have been blessed to be watch each of her nieces grow up over the years.
When not working or working out (looking at you John), we enjoy spending time at home. We like to watch TV shows and movies, go for walks, and just being in the same room enjoying our respective hobbies: John with his computer programming and video games, Alex with her reading.
We both share a passion for cooking and baking. The kitchen is our favorite room in the home! We look forward to sharing these activities with a little one.
Travelling has become a huge part of our lives and we have a never-ending list of places we want to go next. Our favorite things to do while traveling is eat local food and explore the history and culture of our destination.
We both come from big extended families, where any holiday turns into an excuse to get together to share meals, great conversations, and fun. Our families value traditions and that is something we have grown to love. Alex’s family always celebrated Easter and Christmas while John’s family has a big Lunar New Year party every year. We continue to keep these multi-cultural traditions alive, since moving to CA , and hope to create even more new ones as we grow our family.
We have a loving, stable, happy home. We want to provide a child with the opportunity to grow up and achieve all their dreams, where they will be loved unconditionally. We cannot wait to take on the new role of being their forever cheerleader! We look forward to meeting you and hearing about the dreams you have for your child.
