About Brent

Brent is a bit of a nerd. He enjoys reading, watching anime, and playing video games indoors, and also really enjoys being out in nature. As a child, Brent’s father would often take him on walks in the woods. Brent looks forward to sharing this love of nature as a parent to a little one someday. His favorite book series is The Wheel of Time. Other favorites include Mistborn and anything by Brandon Sanderson.

Brent loves teaching, and the thing that excites him most about becoming a parent is actively being able to help a child find their love of learning. He can speak both Brazilian Portuguese as well as Spanish and hopes to share his love of language with a child.

About Jen

Jen is a thrift shopping wizard. She furnished the entire guest bedroom and most of the home decor from thrift stores. She says it is like finding treasures! She looks forward to finding all sorts of cute children’s clothing to keep a child looking hip.

Speaking of Wizards, Jen is a major Harry Potter fan. As a Gryffindor, she values her friends and family highly. She also values bravery in standing up for what she believes and those she loves.

As a parent, Jen hopes to teach a little one to love themselves and to be accepting of others no matter their background or challenges.

Our Pets

Luna is a female domestic short-haired cat, and we met her at a local shelter. She is a sweet cat who is curious about new people and who does not scratch or bite. She is very patient around everyone, including children. She would love to have a little human around to cuddle with.

Rowena is a female King Charles Cavalier Spaniel dog whom we got when she was a puppy. She loves meeting new people and really loves being around children. She would actually prefer to be around people rather than other dogs! And she can’t wait to have another little person in the house to play with.

Our Family

Brent’s parents, brother, and Jen’s dad all live nearby. Sunday dinners happen every week at Brent’s parents’ home. The nephews and nieces often enjoy jumping on a trampoline, playing basketball, or riding scooters around the home when everyone gets together. Brent’s extended family gets together for Christmas each year, which usually involves hilarious white elephant gifts, poorly sung Christmas carols, and fun food. Jen’s dad comes by most weeks to visit at our home, and he enjoys attending those sporting events with us. We look forward to sharing our traditions with a little one who might someday grow to teach us new traditions that they learn in school or from their friends. Family is very important to us.

Our Home

We live in Scotts Valley, which is a cute little mountain town just above Santa Cruz, California. Our home is on a hill and has a magnificent view of the city and the nearby forest from our living room. One of the other neat things about Scott’s Valley is that everything is close by, including stores, restaurants, and excellent schools. We are about a 10-minute drive from both the redwoods and the beach. We have built a loving and caring home that is full of laughter, fun, and learning.

Our primary goal in raising a child is to teach them to be a kind and loving human being. We promise to give our whole hearts and minds to loving them, teaching them, encouraging them, lifting them up when they stumble, and setting them up for success throughout their life.
