Christmas for Robert, Halloween for Darrell
Kauaʻi, Hawaii where we saw sea turtles every day on the beach
Every Christmas we make sugar plum cookies with our nieces from plums the girls and us picked in summer.
Hello! We are Robert and Darrell! Robert is a Teacher and Darrell is a Lab Scientist. We both love reading books, hanging out with family and visiting festivals. We want to have the kind of home that everyone and anyone feels welcome and we are hoping to grow our family.
We met in a coffee shop for what we thought was a 1 hour date and ended up talking late into the evening. Shortly after, we fell in love and we have been married for almost 5 years. One of the things we knew we both wanted was to be parents when we got married. We want to adopt and to share the overflowing love we have with a newborn child. We love to serve others through our work and through community volunteering.
Robert is pretty amazing and there are so many stories I could tell about him. He is always doing kind and generous things that I wouldn’t think to do. He is always reading philosophy or science fiction or occasionally manga (often manga!). He is always learning something: whether its cooking or speaking Spanish it always, surprises me. His patience with his students and nieces is really impressive. He’s funny too! He is constantly asking me about which superpowers would be the best in different situations when we take hikes or walks with the dogs. There’s no one I like better so I am lucky I married him!
Darrell is adventurous, brave, intelligent and loving. He has backpacked across the mountains in California, scuba dived under a glacier in Iceland and traversed across European countries such as Britain, France, Belgium and Italy. Darrell often pushes me to meet new people and enjoy different experiences that I would have never done without him. The best part about Darrell is that my nieces love him. Whenever they come over, they ask if he can play with him all the time. They also get sad when they have to leave. He bakes cookies with the girls and puts jelly on them from plums the girls plucked from a fruit tree. He also taught them that the fruits were called “plums”, not “beans” as they were originally calling them.
We live in Robert’s hometown of Vallejo, California. Robert has many cousins, uncles, aunties, and grandparents living near us from both sides of his family. Our house is a blue, two-story house that overlooks the waterfront in a quiet and friendly neighborhood with several parks. Our city enjoys mild summers and chilly but refreshing winters. Our church is where we got married and it is very welcoming and full of great people. Robert is a board member of our church and Darrell is a volunteer making coffee and sometimes in the Sunday school.
One of the best things about our family is that we have so much of it where we live! We have family get-togethers with tons of cousins, nieces, nephews, aunties and uncles! It’s helpful to have lots of uncles and aunts to share childcare with. Our nieces, Gabby, Addy and Riley come over often and we have a great time baking cookies, doing projects and reading with them. They are looking forward to having a new cousin. Darrell’s parents and grandma live together in southern California on the beach where Darrell’s grandpa taught him to bodysurf.
We are looking forward to getting to know you better! We know that this is a stressful time but we want you to know that our home is a welcoming place for everyone who comes here. Our family is built around love, kindness and acceptance for everyone. And cookies!
