Our names are Hub and Jacob. We are ready to build our family together through open adoption and experience the joy and fulfillment of raising a child.
Dear expectant parent,
We’ve been together for 22 years and were married in July 2008 in San Francisco City Hall, just one month after marriage equality first became legally recognized by the state of California. The San Francisco Bay Area has been our home since 2005, and we live in the town of Sonoma. We believe in helping others, being respectful, and protecting the environment – values we plan to teach a child.
We were pioneers in a way, coming out of the closet and working for progress in civil rights after being raised in parts of the country that were not yet supportive of all families and marriages. We are close and enjoy our life together, including a strong and supportive family on both sides who are excited that we want to grow our family through open adoption.
Hub is short for Herbert (named after his grandfather). His family is originally from South Carolina, but Hub was born in Pensacola, Florida. Hub attended college at Duke University in Durham, NC, and graduate school at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. He is a statistician and a demographer (demography is the statistical study of human populations). He has worked in the statistical field since 1998, now working in media research, developing methods to accurately measure users of the internet and smartphones! He loves that his job is challenging and always changing. In his free time, Hub enjoys bicycling, swimming, hiking, reading, and traveling. He also volunteers with our church and for other charities. Additionally, he loves to learn and is adventurous, easy-going, and patient – all great characteristics for being a dad!
Jacob grew up in small rural towns in West Texas and eastern New Mexico. His family is from those states as well as North Dakota and Kansas. He studied economics at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque (where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in economics) and American University in Washington, DC. After working as an economist for the Department of the Treasury, he went to law school at Emory University in Atlanta, becoming an attorney in 2005. He has worked for corporate law firms and now works in employment law at the Social Security Administration. He has a great sense of humor and a caring heart as seen in his volunteerism with our church and other causes. He is kind, patient, and curious about the world – also all great traits for being a dad!
We love living in Sonoma, where we bought our home in part because we believe that it is an ideal place for a child to live, grow up, and thrive. We are on a quiet private street of newer homes a few blocks from Sonoma’s historic Plaza. Our home is a 3 bedroom and 2.5 bathroom craftsman-style home with both historic style and modern amenities. The neighborhood is quiet and beautiful and is easy to get around by both bicycles and on foot. We know many of our neighbors.
Our city has a lot of art and food festivals, and we are close to the ocean, the Bay, and the Russian River. The mountains, hills, and valleys of the Wine Country region are scenic and peaceful, and we love exploring them and seeing all of the wildlife around us, such as quail, deer, ducks, wild turkeys, hawks, foxes, and rabbits. We also enjoy traveling and having new experiences. We look forward to someday exploring with a little one some of our favorite places like New Orleans, Copenhagen, San Juan, Charleston, Paris, and Puerto Vallarta.
We adopted our dog when he was a puppy. We love taking him on walks and hikes. Helo is 4 years old and energetic. He loves all people and dogs and really enjoys snuggling. He is excited to have little human addition in the home that will play and snuggle with him. He is going to LOVE all of the attention!
We are godfathers to our two nephews and three nieces (children of each of our brothers). Additionally, Hub helped a lesbian couple have three children as a donor. We are close with Hub’s three biological children (Roisin (9 yrs.), Julius (7 yrs.), and Maynard (1 yr.)), who live in Australia with their parents. We visited all of them in Australia in 2020, making many beautiful memories. It is because of this experience that we fully know our hearts are unlimited for love.
We believe in family and, having been together for so long, know that we have the stability and security that we imagine you might want for your child. We are ready for the experience of parenting and supporting a child unconditionally as he or she grows. Our love and history together, supportive friends and family, and our will to be the best parents that you dream for your child will guide us as parents.
We look forward to meeting you and hopefully being able to reassure you of the kind of dads we believe we will be.
With hope and love,
Hub & Jacob
