Our Life

Our work: Both of us work as Artificial Intelligence Researchers at private companies. Imanol works in the area of Ethics and AI, and Bernardo works in Finance. Both of us have a deep passion for ensuring AI benefits rather than harms society. We are very cause driven and have deep beliefs in using technology to improve the lives of marginalized communities.

Qualities we value in others: We like authentic, passionate people who are not afraid to open up and show us their true self. Friends and family are very important to us, and we are not afraid to open our hearts to new people when they open theirs to us.

He loves music, books, cooking, gardening, pottery, and is always looking to share his creations with other people.

Our friends are always eager to try Imanol’s crazy new (and delicious) recipes. So far he has also been the best “uncle” I have seen, always thinking of what our friends’ kids would like, cooking for them, giving them gifts, performing magic tricks, taking care of and spending time with them. He is great at making up fantastic stories and loves to tell these to the kids we know. It excites me beyond imagination to see him become the loving and nurturing parent I am sure he will be.

About Bernardo, by Imanol

Bernardo is a brilliant, thoughtful, loving and kind human being.

He has been my life partner for 13 years. We’ve had the delight of interacting with lots of kids in our lives (many of our best friends and cousins have had children in recent years). Berni is the light in all of their eyes. It is not uncommon to see Berni at family gatherings, with kids hanging from legs and arms. Apart from this, Berni is the person I admire the most in the world. He is not only a brilliant scientist, but also has a lot of heart and passion for art and music. Apart from his job, he is also part of a ballet company. Watching him dance is one of my favorite pastimes. This also makes him superb at most sports.

Our Home and community

We live in a beautiful community full of families. Our house is more than we could have ever dreamed of. We have an amazing backyard with a view of the bay and the mountains. We are also very close to nature, with parks and trails within walking (or biking) distance. Our home also holds a special feature— an attached apartment, where our parents and siblings often stay. We really enjoy having our loved ones nearby for long periods.

Our Extended Family

We are fortunate to have close-knit families spread across the globe, and despite the distance, we maintain very strong bonds. Our siblings are not only family but also cherished friends, and our parents play a vital role in our lives. Moreover, we have cultivated a close local community of friends whom we connect with on a weekly basis. We think of them, and trust them as family. We are uncles in the eyes of all our friend’s kids, and we actively try to spend as much time as we can with them.
