We’ve been together 14 years and have had a lot of fun and beautiful adventures together. We live with our 3-year-old daughter in our Spanish-speaking household. We always knew we would expand our family through adoption and feel honored that you are reading about us. We appreciate you possibly considering us as the ones to care for your little one.

About Adam

Adam was born and raised in the Oakland area. Adam is a sweet, kind, and loving partner and dad. Our daughter and I are his #1 fans! He can be a little quiet in first meetings, but quickly, you learn that he’s the sweetest, nerdiest, and smartest person you’ll ever know.

He loves baseball, women’s soccer, women’s tennis, and is obsessed with making homemade ice cream. He’s gotten really good at it too! His strawberry ice cream is one of our favorites.

Adam is an amazing dad. Thanks to his flexible remote job, he’s able to participate in everything from doctor’s appointments to playing at the park on a sunny afternoon. Whether they are playing elaborate pretend games with her stuffed animals or tending to their plants outside, they are always together. He is so patient with her, kind, and the type of dad who takes the time to explore the fun in life.

Adam works in tech, but with a twist. He received his BA in English from Colorado College and got his Master’s in Entertainment Technology from Carnegie Melon University. Basically, he can create things from a video game or something for a virtual reality headset or something more interactive (like a work training). Right now, he makes 3D models for construction projects, so he builds things so folks can see what it could look like before it’s built.

About Jessika

Jessika was born and raised in Stockton, CA. She moved to San Francisco for college, then moved with Adam across the country to go to grad school in Pittsburgh. She has a tight-knit family, and when her dad got sick moved back to California to be closer to home.

For the past two years, she stepped away from work to focus full-time on the home front. She managed our move, home renovations, and ensured that our daughter was supported and having fun.

“Jess” is very handy in the house, painting or replacing drywall. She is smart, funny, and loyal, with lots of close, long-time friends. She loves live music, Pokémon, Star Trek, and all superheroes.

She is a great mom, always putting our daughter’s wants and needs first. She’s nurturing, loving, and creative. Watching her be a mother to our daughter shows me that her heart is so full of love and she’s ready to share her love with another child in the home we’ve created for our family.

Jessika got her BA in Sociology from San Francisco State University and earned her Master’s in Social Work from the University of Pittsburgh. She has worked in nonprofits for most of her career, specifically with program development, research, and writing for the benefit of communities. She has a strong sense of justice and has dedicated her career to making the world more equitable. Her parents own small Mexican markets, and Jess has spent the latter part of her career helping small businesses (like her family’s) with business consulting. She has stepped away from full-time work over the last few years to focus on family but remains available part-time to support small businesses.

Our Daughter, Carmen

Carmen is a little on the shy side at first, but when she feels comfortable, she is the loudest person in the room. She is smart and, now that she’s older, she’s turning into a little comedian. She speaks fluent Spanish and has begun mixing in some English (though she’s still shy about it). She loves playing with her stuffed animals and has been having fun learning to swim and do gymnastics. She will be a good big sis to a little one because she is gentle, caring, and loving. We already know how much she will enjoy showing a little sibling things that she’s already learned.

Our Home

We live in a beautiful home in the Bay Area. We have lived here for a little over a year and have fallen in love with the neighborhood. Our home has a huge yard. We know all our neighbors and even have regular play dates with the family across the street. The schools in our neighborhood are very good and even include a Spanish Immersion program. With Jessika coming from a large Mexican family, we think it’s important that children learn to read and write in Spanish. We’re a 10-minute walk to a great park, grocery store, and bakery. You’ll usually see us walking first thing in the morning to get breakfast at the bakery on the weekends before we head to our local farmer’s market.

Our Loved Ones

In our life, there’s always a family celebration! Jessika has two siblings and 5 nieces and nephews that we see at least once a month because they are our daughter’s “amigos favoritos.” Jessika’s parents have a big, beautiful house on 5 acres. Her parents have chickens, a playground, and a pool, so you’ll usually catch us there with Adam’s family for Christmas, Thanksgiving, or just a Sunday in the summer for the best carne asada.

Adam’s family is a little smaller and scattered between Minneapolis and New York City. His parents live 20 minutes away, and we usually see them at least once a week. His extended family is some of our favorite people, so we do our best to visit his aunts, uncles, and cousins at least once a year, whether it’s a trip to the East Coast or a shared vacation to a beach.
