Meet Josh & Jessica

Hi! We’re Jessica & Josh from San Francisco, and we are so excited to start a family.

We love our family & friends, traveling, cooking (Josh) and baking (Jessica), and our cats, Framber and Altuve. We met in 2021 in a Zoom biostatistics class at UC Berkeley during COVID! It turned out we had more in common than being math nerds, and we’ve been together ever since.

We loved our safari in Uganda; it was especially meaningful because Jessica collaborates with Ugandan colleagues on malaria research.

In addition to our two cats, we also foster kittens whenever we can!

About Jessica, by Josh

Jessica is incredibly adventurous, helping push me out of my comfort zone sometimes, which I definitely need! She cares about making the world a better place, is intellectually curious, and loves bragging about Texas barbecue. In addition, she is great with kids and I know she be a loving and fun mom. We’ve been a great team when facing challenges, and I’m excited to embark on this parenting journey with her.

About Josh, by Jessica

Josh is the most thoughtful person I know (in addition to being extremely patient, which is a great quality that I sometimes lack!) He is also funny, smart, and super generous – the kind of person you want to have in your life, which is why I married him! I am proud that we have a very equal partnership in both work and home life, which we plan to continue with parenting becomes part of our lives.

Our Home and Community

We absolutely love living in a walkable neighborhood surrounded by parks (Dolores Park is our favorite). Our niece and nephew love the nearby playgrounds too! Our apartment is big for San Francisco – we have a guest room for visiting family in addition to having a dedicated room for a nursery. Although our kitchen is small, our living room is spacious and filled with plants! On the weekends, you’ll often find us going for a run or hike, exploring the city, playing with our cats, and/or out eating tacos with friends!

Our Family

Jessica: With four parents, I have double the family and double the fun (think: two Christmases!). Both sets of parents live in Katy, Texas, within walking distance of each other, so it’s easy to visit. My sweet grandmother, who is 90, also lives with my dad and stepmom. My sister, Amanda, and I are close, and she and her husband live in Austin with our little niece Rachel, who is about to turn 2. Hosh has fit right in to our big family – his parents have celebrated Thanksgivings with mine, and we enjoy taking vacations together!

Josh: My parents are very outdoorsy and active in their community in western Massachusetts in their retirement. My brother Brian and his wife live in upstate New York, with our nephew Nin (age 4), who loves soccer, card games, and sledding!

In addition to our families, we have a large community of friends that spans the Bay Area, from Oakland to Marin to San Francisco. Most of them have young children, and all have been incredibly supportive in our family-building journey.

Our Pets

Our first foster kittens were immediate foster fails! Framber (orange) and Altuve (black) are named after Astros players because Jessica is from Houston and still follows the team. Altuve is adventurous and playful, especially with kids, while Framber is a gentle scaredy cat who warms up over time. We also love to foster kittens, so we do that as often as we can in between our travels.
