Meet Micaela

I have always loved being with children, because I learn so much from them and they encourage me to be my best self. I have helped raise my 14 year old nephew and I have spent a lot of time with my friends’ children.

 

I am patient, curious, and calm. I love learning new things, exploring outdoors, running, laughing hard, dancing, swimming, biking, reading, traveling, telling stories, and relaxing at home with family and friends.

 

By Ricardo: Micaela has a profound depth for caring about others. She cares about her family and her students in the same way. Micaela looks for ways to make her community a place where children are safe and happy to learn. Micaela and I can talk about anything. She is thoughtful, patient and I know she will be a loving mother.

Meet Ricardo

I enjoy working with kids and teenagers and hearing from them how they see things in life. I like outdoor activities; hiking, jogging, and going to flea markets. I enjoy fixing typewriters and record players because I learn something new every time I try to fix one. I am kind, thoughtful, and patient. I am curious about everything and want to know how it works or how it was created. I love being around family and friends.

 

By Micaela: Ricardo will be an amazing dad. He is incredibly patient and caring with our family, his students, and our larger community. Ricardo is generous with his time and is ready to “show up” for others, especially me. He is super creative too, from gardening to music, to history, to art, to fixing things. I have fun with Ricardo every day, and I can’t wait to see him nurturing a little one as a dad.

Our Careers

We have both spent our whole careers working with children. We love being around young people and really enjoy the flexibility the school year provides us! We have a lot of fun during those free summers and extended winter breaks!

 

Ricardo has worked with students of all ages, including in outdoor and arts education. His passion, however, is teaching high school students.

 

Micaela has worked with students from preschool through elementary school. She loves her current role of teaching TK in Spanish.

 

We both speak Spanish and definitely plan to teach the little one we raise Spanish as well.

Our Home and Community

We live in a diverse, family-friendly neighborhood in Oakland, CA. Our home is within walking distance of a great elementary school and parks. Micaela grew up on this property, and her parents still live here. Living with extended family is such a benefit. They are always ready to jump in and assist on a project or just come together for an evening of good food, story telling and laughter. Our property has a big backyard with a garden full of fruit trees and many places to play. Raising a little one on this special, beautiful property gives them large places to explore nature and maybe even grow fruits and veggies!

Our Extended Family

Micaela’s parents, sister, brother-in-law, and 14-year-old nephew all live in Oakland, and we see them most days of the week. We have family dinners, game nights, and travel together. Ricardo talks to his mom most days of the week. Ricardo’s mom, 5 siblings, and nieces and nephews live in San Francisco, Watsonville, and Salinas, which are all driving distances from us. We see them regularly for family celebrations. Our families and friends support us on this journey of adoption and look forward to someday playing a positive, loving role in the child’s life.
