Hello, we are Craig and Abigail – originally from England and Canada, and now living in beautiful Oakland, California. We have been together for 6 years and are overjoyed with the thought of raising a child in our diverse community full of family and friends, love and laughter, and endless encouragement.
We understand this is a difficult decision for you, and we are honored that you might consider us to be adoptive parents to your child.
Craig is originally from Canada, and Abigail from England, but we have both lived in California for many years and consider it our ‘forever home.’
Together we have visited many countries, as well as much of the U.S. Last year we went to Greece, Mexico and to Yosemite National Park, as well as visiting our families in England and Canada. Despite both having been born elsewhere, we’re proud to call ourselves Americans, and look forward sharing our favorite parts of the world with our child, including our home countries, and the cities we’ve called ‘home before’ – from San Diego to Sydney to Seattle. Closer to home we love spending time camping with friends – Craig does his best cooking over a campfire!
I am the luckiest man I know. I am married to my best friend. I love how much fun Abigail is to spend time with, and how clever she is. I’m in love with her every day more than the last. It only took me a few minutes to understand what truly motivates Abigail and where her passions lie. She has dedicated both her personal and professional lives to helping others and doing right where others haven’t. Every day she chooses to invest her legal skills to bringing justice to people who have been mistreated by the same institutions that exist to protect them or have had their most basic of civil rights taken from them.
Those who know Abigail see this same ‘others first’ mindset in her personal projects. She currently volunteers at Cat Town Oakland, which is a cat café and rescue center. It’s inspiring and is one of the things I admire most about her. She also loves doing yoga, tending to her succulents and birdwatching.
I’ve seen first-hand for years how much Abigail wants to be a parent. And knowing myself how loving, caring, clever, and fun she is to be around, I can honestly say that she will definitely earn those #1 MOM coffee mugs every Mothers’ day.
Craig is the best man I know. He is happiest when he is looking out for others. He is the first person to jump in when a stranger or a friend needs help, and he always knows the best thing to do in any situation. He is energetic and willing to try anything new. Recently he took a fire-eating class just for fun. He also enjoys scuba diving, welding, and home brewing.
Craig works very hard as a software engineer for a large company in San Francisco, but also makes himself available evenings and weekends for family activities. He is an organizer, and always plans fun things for us to do. He is very practical, and can fix anything around the house, as well as being the one who works the sewing machine.
Craig is a natural with children. He can always get even the shiest child to talk to him and takes a genuine interest in them. Craig can also be rather silly and does an excellent Minion impression! I’m confident that Craig will be a fantastic father. I know he’ll be a great dad filled with love, patience and the tools to take on all situations and difficult conversations as they arise. He will have unconditional love for our child, sharing his time and limitless energy.
We live in the beautiful Oakland Hills. We love Oakland – a vibrant, diverse city, which always has something interesting going on. We have a 100-year-old house with a porch perfect for hammock-based sunset watching, guest rooms begging to become a baby’s room and a play room, and a lawn perfect for a child to run barefoot alongside our loveable three-legged cat, Truman.
Our neighborhood is safe, child friendly, and sociable. Our street has a Halloween party every year for the kids after trick or treating, and during the summer we host a movie night on our front lawn and invite our neighbors and friends. The local library, community center and playgrounds are all in walking distance.
And we are fortunate to live so close to the majestic Redwood Regional Park with many beautiful walking/biking trails, and a world class zoo.
We also have a secluded cabin in the Stanislaus National Forest which we both love very much. This is our sanctuary from city life, surrounded by towering Sequoias. Spending time in the tranquil beauty of the Sierra mountains means a lot to us and we’re looking forward to spending long weekends as a family, sharing our joy of nature with our child.
We are very close to Craig’s mother, who lives in Vancouver, Canada, and who spends about 4 weeks a year with us. She is very excited about having another grandchild to “spoil”. We also love to visit Craig’s brother, sister-in-law, and our niece and nephew, who live in Whistler, Canada. With so much of Craig’s family living on the west coast we’re often able to get away on vacations together and celebrate important family holidays like Christmas with one another in the snow-covered mountains of British Columbia.
Abigail’s sister’s family lives in a 400-year-old farmhouse in the English countryside. Our two English nieces consider us their “fun” aunt and uncle (impressive considering they have 5 sets to choose from), because whenever we see them we love to play all the games the other grown-ups are too busy for. Abigail’s parents live in a quaint little town in England. We can’t wait to take our child to Europe to share in so many of the things from Abigail’s own childhood
The choice you are making is likely one of the hardest of your life. We believe that adoption is not just a loving choice, but one of the most generous of acts that anyone can possibly make. We hope choosing the parents for your child gives you peace of mind, and should you choose us we will welcome you into our lives. And, we will embrace this greatest gift that we ever receive, by ensuring that your child is loved and cared for. From bedtime stories to forest hikes to surrounding them with loving family and friends we will do everything in our power to provide your child every possible opportunity and support them as they explore their own passions – from sports to dance to cooking to school plays to music or academics.
Thank you for taking the time to learn more about us. We would love the opportunity to learn more about you and understand more about your hopes and dreams for your child and open adoption.
We can’t wait to meet you.
